Peter Westbrook

April 16, 1952 – November 29, 2024.

In 1984 Westbrook became the first African-American and Asian-American to win an Olympic medal. In 1991, he founded the Peter Westbrook Foundation, which has served more than 4,000 scholar-athletes.

Westbrook won the 1973 NCAA Saber Championship as an NYU Violet and helped lead NYU to the 1973 and 1974 NCAA Team Championships. He graduated from NYU’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business in 1975. Westbrook was inducted into the NYU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1985. A special tribute will be observed at NYU’s final home match of the season on January 24, 2025.
